In the summer of 2020, Dark Regions Press approached me about a book project that was going to be a follow up to I Am the Abyss, the afterlife/underworld anthology that included my novelette, The Bardo of Becoming. The new book was to be focused on the Egyptian underworld, which appealed to me, in part because of the ties to Egyptian mythology I’d written into the SPECTRA Files series.
Well, if you follow the specialty press world, you might have heard that Dark Regions went under, but not before I wrote a new novelette for the project. Thankfully, I was paid half of a nice fee for the work, and now that it’s mine to do as I like with, I’m especially glad I wrote a story that ties into the SPECTRA Mythos and can now share it with you.
At the heart of the SPECTRA Files series is an amulet known as the Fire of Cairo, a golden scarab that plays a vital role in humanity’s battle against the Old Gods and their minions. Here, for the first time, we find a vital chapter in the origin story of that magical artifact. Comprised of twelve short chapters, Going Forth by Night charts one man’s journey through the Egyptian underworld in a desperate effort to save his kingdom and maybe even his soul from the forces of chaos and darkness.
Clocking in at around 16,000 words, this tale is more of a dessert or appetizer than a meal, but I think it adds something fun to the SPECTRA menu. You can download your FREE copy from Book Funnel by clicking here or on the cover art below.
